Welcome to Tail Wags & Book Bags!

We are a 501(c)3 that provides highly trained assistance dogs and educators to schools to help students challenged by learning differences such as dyslexia, executive function, speech and language, visual/motor coordination, sensory processing and ADHD.

We are dedicated to enhancing the academic, emotional and social well being of students by pairing wise, skilled, loving dogs with tailored education. Tail Wags and Book Bags was formed in 2013 by Karin Hemphill, M.Ed, MA.

Karin's son, Tucker, struggled with profound dyslexia as a child.  He was a loving, happy child but school was not his favorite place to be. Twice per month, his teacher brought her golden retriever, Obie, to school. On "dog days" Tucker was up early, independent with regard to routine, and very happy about going to school.  Karin realized then that assistance dogs have an amazing ability to transform the lives of children.
